• Jul 21, 2007  This update affects pure server and protocol consistency, and adds a number of other multiplayer fixes including support for QUAKE 4 TV. It will fully update any previous version of Quake 4.
• Quake IV is based on the Doom III engine, although it is apparent that Quake IV will be a superior modding platform thanks to iD and Raven's efforts in optimizing the netcode, adding vehicles, and general fixes made to the engine since Doom III's release.

This is the official patch for Quake 4, updating the game by id Software to v1.4.2 fixing many bugs and such listed below in more information.

The 1.3 update affects pure server and protocol consistency. Therefore, players who update to 1.3 from ANY previous version will only be able to connect and play against other 1.3 users. Save games and demos created on any previous version of the game will not be compatible with the 1.3 update.'
